From Tyson Shiyuk - Airbus A320 Pilot - Air Canada
Tyson began his aviation career at Montair. He did his training with Al Neufeld, the president of Montair, and became Montair’s first flight instructor. Tyson is currently an Airbus A320 First Officer for Air Canada.
Tyson says working as a flight instructor develops two skills necessary for a professional pilot. "You perfect your flying while learning to interact and communicate with people from all walks of life. These are skills you use every time you step into the cockpit, whether it is a 185 on floats or a 747."
Tyson goes on to say, "At Montair, if you are a student, an instructor, or a PC12 Captain, you will learn the importance of treating your coworkers with respect." Tyson attributes much of his success to the professional work environment at Montair.
Tyson has a degree in Mechanical Engineering from UBC. He encourages aspiring airline pilots to complete some form of
post secondary education, to continue improving their abilities by applying for new licences, and to attend
skill enhancing courses.
When Tyson was asked what he enjoys most about his job, he answered, "The best part of my job is flying heavy transport category aircraft and dealing with challenges such as air traffic control and weather, while maintaining the highest level of safety and integrity." He continued, "I also enjoy the people and traveling around the world. Even though you have flown Vancouver to Toronto hundreds of times, each flight is truly different."
Tyson describes working for Air Canada as, "a dream come true!"
