Location, location, location. Montair Aviation is located in the heart of the Lower Mainland, allowing students travelling from multiple cities easy access and routes to get to the Pitt Meadows Airport. A majority of our students are moving here from around the world to learn from our exceptional instructors and it can be challenging trying to find a place to live during your program’s length.
On our website, you may see that we do have on-site housing for students, however, these accommodations are exclusively for students who are enrolled in corporate training programs. Now don’t let this discourage you, we know it can be hard looking for accommodations, especially when you don’t live in the area you may be moving to but we are here to help to the best of our abilities.
To help those of you navigate the rental market in the Lower Mainland of British Columbia, we have a few aspects to consider when looking for your future housing accommodation.
Location:
Montair is lucky to be located in a central area that allows students to live in the surrounding cities and still have a simple commute, but some cities can stretch as far as 35 km long. For example, Montair Aviation is located in Pitt Meadows, British Columbia but Pitt Meadows expands up to 26km away from Montair.
Understanding that even though Montiar is located in Pitt Meadows, the closest and most convenient housing may not be in Pitt Meadows. It is important to look into the distance between potential housing and Montair, and a good source to use is google maps! Get directions from Montair to your potential housing and look at all the transportation options and their distance and time frame. This will allow you to realize the routes you may have to take to Montair.
Here are a few surrounding cities to start your search in:
Maple Ridge (ranging from 6km – 30km away from Montair)
Langley/ Langley Township (ranging from 8km – 36km away from Montair)
Surrey (Ranging from 7km – 27km away from Montair)
A few resources that you can use to find accommodations are simple and can be done through your phone or computer. Please note, Montair has no direct affiliations with any particular suppliers of accommodation, so all students are encouraged to conduct their own due diligence before entering into arrangements with housing providers.

Transportation:
The lower mainland is very lucky with the amount of different modes of transportation we have. From owning your own car and driving to the sky train that goes from Surrey to downtown Vancouver, we have an abundance of transportation options. However, as most cities have, not every road has a bus stop or quick access to public transportation, Montair is one of those places. The closest bus stop to Montair is located on ‘Northbound Harris Rd @ Hammond Rd.”, which is a 22-minute walk to Montair’s base.
It is important to know your options for your commute to your classes but it is also important to know the cities transportation limits if that is how you plan on traveling. Using google maps and looking at all the routes and transportation modes will help you decide where to find housing but also where you may need to find your own way if transportation is available in that area.
Weather and Traffic:
The lower mainland is known for its beautiful weather year-round but for those who have never been here, you may not know of the other weather patterns we see here. Rain is a large part of our weather pattern in this part of Canada and for around 9 months of the year, rain is almost a daily occurrence. We don’t see often is snow but when we do it can cause quite the chaos on our roads as most drivers here are not used to driving in the snow. This can allow for large amounts of traffic or road closures depending on the amount of snow that comes.
These are all important aspects to think about when considering moving to attend Montair’s Pilot License programs. We want you to be comfortable, relaxed and aware of all the variables that may impact your studying here. We hope that with this list you are more prepared when deciding on your accommodations and the commute you may have to Montair.
Please note, Montair has no direct affiliations with any particular suppliers of accommodation, so all students are encouraged to conduct their own due diligence before entering into arrangements with housing providers.
We look forward to seeing you here and remember if you have any questions, please send us an email and we will help you the best we can!
